Just In: An Interview with OPB

We at Portland Open Bible Community Pantry would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) for featuring our Executive Director, Betty Brown, and Olivia Estrada, a mother and client of ours, in a recent interview as part of their Think Out Loud Series.

The interview highlighted the vital work we do to address food insecurity in Southeast Portland, a community that has been historically designated as a "food desert."

As you know, for the past eight years, our pantry has been providing free boxes of food containing fresh produce, meat, bread and other grocery staples to residents three days a week. Thanks to a grant from the Oregon Food Bank, we were able to launch an online ordering system for clients to select food items via our drive-through pickup, making it even more convenient for those in need to access nutritious food.

We're also proud to have partnered with Providence Health to stock a local clinic with a food pantry. This allows patients to leave with a bag of groceries to meet dietary or nutritional needs, creating a holistic approach to healthcare.

We're grateful for the opportunity to share our story and the impact we're making in Southeast Portland with the wider community through OPB's interview. We wouldn't be able to do this work without the support of organizations like OPB and our dedicated volunteers, donors and community partners.

Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of those facing hunger and food insecurity.
